The Not-So-Wise Woodpecker

God is hilarious sometimes --- not that he's trying to be funny --- i mean, HE'S GOD --- He has much too much to be attending to for "funny" to be on His list of to-dos.

Usually i watch for God in the magnificent or the simple.
For two days now ----- He's made me laugh right out loud at His clear message through a hard headed woodpecker.

I posted a blog on my normal Tuesday --- but thankfully before many read it --- i deleted the whole thing. It was a "venting" sort of blog posting. And just like God --- within minutes of me clicking "publish", He convicted me. Here's the thing --- God knows life on the human side of Heaven is going to be hard. So He gives us ways to overcome the "hard" and remain soft of heart. His Word --- His touches --- His guidance to our souls throughout the hard times. He's always near us, never far, always working in the most minute details.
But me/we in our humanness can so easily get caught up in the situations ---- we get blinded  by the glare of the discomfort --- and we lose sight of His powerful presence.
I hope i'm not alone in that reality.

We have to be purposeful ---- very intentional --- to step AWAY from the circumstances --- reevaluate the situation from a safe distance (like 30,000 feet if possible LOL) --- and reenter the "fray" carrying the Truth as our flashlight.
If we don't purpose in our hearts to perceive everything from God's angle ---- we'll go under --- quickly.

So as i "wrestled" with a silly-human-situation that had me all twisted up --- i blogged about it --- with the desire to speak of the unpleasant in order to better reflect the greatness of God's ability to overcome ANYTHING! But in the writing, i carelessly shared too much. And GOD (not another person --- but GOD HIMSELF) spanked me soundly. Yes --- God can do that!
How?
Get this ----
He used the VERY scripture i memorized last month!!! How amazing is that?!
My scripture for March was Psalm 15.
It begins:
"Who may dwell in your sacred tent? Who may live on your Holy mountain? The one whose walk is blameless, who does what is righteous, who speaks the truth from the heart. Whose tongue utters no slander, who does no wrong to a neighbor, and casts no slur on others..."
Don't get me wrong --- in my blog i was not literally "slurring" another with my words. But my heart certainly was (oh how ugly our hearts can be at times). Am i alone here --- golly i hope not.
Someone had done something WRONG ---- yes. Undeniable -- without question. And i had prayed long and hard over it --- handing it over to God --- asking for Him to handle it through and through.
But -- my heart was "leaking" in my blog ---- and God was not pleased with His daughter.
Wow --- the words God had urged me to commit to memory --- "whose tongue utters no slander -- and casts no slur on others"  --- were relentless and powerful.

So --- i confessed my ugly heart to an all knowing God ---- and deleted the post.
His grace is just as relentless as His scoldings ----- i'm one thankful daughter.

Now comes the hilarious woodpecker part ----------- Made by God - delivering God's message...

For two days now ---- a silly red-headed piliated woodpecker has persistently pounded his beak on a metal cap that covers the top of a fence post just across the road from our home.
It surely has to RATTLE his tiny brain when he hits that unmoving metal.
But he keeps trying ---- pounding --- foolishly.

Just after scolding me --- God spoke to me --- and He used the silly woodpecker to deliver His simple message.

"If you keep banging your head against the wrong things ---- you'll accomplish NOTHING (--- but you might end up with a bad headache)."

The woodpecker across the road --- might be right --- there might be bugs/critters in the post. He might be correct in his "discerning". But, he is foolish to bang his head against the metal cover.

We could be "right" --- but if God has said, "No, this is not for you to touch" --- then we are are wise to step away. If we don't --- we could be banging our heads against an unmoving object --- an object that may be on God's list to move in His own ways and His own time.
Good lessons learned ---- from a patient Teacher --- through a silly not-so-wise woodpecker.

"Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him." Hebrews 10:38 KJV

Oh how i do love my Savior!
